Silence is truly a special form of Christian asceticism, when a person retreats to the desert, where there are no people, and remains there in prayer and fasting, remaining silent.
The feat of silence is primarily characteristic of monks, who undertake it with special blessing, and not on their own initiative.
To be silent means to remain silent. But one must be silent wisely and remember that when living among people, the most important thing is to learn to love one another, and that unwise silence can offend another person.
